The South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the preservation, documentation and display of South Dakota's sports history.

Ray Antonen - Inducted 1985



Born Oct. 14, 1917 near Lake Norden. Lake Norden High School. Huron College. Was president of the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association from 1967 until his death in 1987. At 14 he began playing baseball for the Lake Norden town team as a catcher and he competed for all but one season for the next 25 years. He managed Lake Norden's team until 1964 when he became active in the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association as a district commissioner. Under Antonen's direction, the state amateur baseball Hall of Fame was built in Lake Norden in 1977.

 

Ray was friends with a number of big leaguers. Below (from top to bottom) he is seen with Bert Blyleven, Bob Feller, Tony Oliva and Sparky Anderson.
