Melissa Guebert (Olson) - Inducted 2024
Melissa Olson Guebert graduated from Sioux Falls Lincoln High School in 1983. She was named South Dakota Miss Basketball, Class A Player of the Year, and an All-State player, averaging 19.2 points and 8.0 rebounds in her senior year. She was the state champion in the 100m hurdles in 1983 and the 300m hurdles in both 1982 and 1983.
Guebert attended Augustana from 1983 to 1987. She is the all-time leading scorer in Augustana Women’s Basketball history with 2,001 points, achieved without three-pointers. She set notable records, including 660 points in a single season. A three-time All-North Central Conference player and two-time Academic NCC honoree, she finished fourth in NCAA Division II scoring in 1987 with 23.6 points per game. She made 18 out of 18 free throws in one game and scored 44 points against USF on November 26, 1984. She was named to the GTE Academic All-America Second Team in 1986-87 and was the 1987 Female Athlete of the Year.
Guebert was the head varsity girls’ basketball coach at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN, from 2011 to 2015, with a record of 115-13. Her teams made four consecutive state tournament appearances, becoming the first female coach to win the 4A State Championship in Minnesota. She was named Section Coach of the Year twice and the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year once. Guebert has been inducted into several halls of fame.
Guebert is married to Dan Guebert, a former men’s player at Augustana, and they have three children: Drew, Madison, and Macy.
