Mark Meile - Inducted 2024
Mark Meile, a 1972 West Central graduate with degrees from NDSU-Bottineau (1974), USD-Springfield (1976), and SDSU (1992), was a pivotal figure in Sioux Falls athletics. As the Sioux Falls School District athletic coordinator from 1993 to 2018, Meile transformed the city into a national sports hub by spearheading the development of new facilities, programs, and top-tier coaching staff. Under his leadership, Sioux Falls public schools saw unprecedented success, including 12 consecutive state football titles from 2006 to 2017, 20 state basketball championships, and 11 state volleyball titles. Meile also directed the Howard Wood Dakota Relays for 25 years, managing over 100 high school state tournaments.
Before his administrative career, Meile was a successful boys’ basketball coach, amassing a 208-98 record across four schools, and served as the athletic director at Brandon Valley (1986-91) and Sioux Falls Roosevelt (1991-93). As an athlete, he excelled in high school football, basketball, and track & field and continued his athletic career in college, playing basketball, baseball, and golf. Meile was also a standout South Dakota amateur athlete, winning a state baseball title with Salem in 1982.
Meile received numerous accolades throughout his career, including induction into the South Dakota Coaches’ Hall of Fame (2021) and the SD Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame (2022). He was named South Dakota Athletic Director of the Year in 2014 and was a national finalist for the award in 2014 and 2018. Meile and his wife, Toni, have two children, Casey (wife Laura) and Nicole (husband Jason), and five grandchildren, Ella, Peyton, and Faye Meile and Jackson and Corbin Anderson.
