Bruce Conley - Inducted 2021



Bruce Conley covered South Dakota sports for 25 years as a reporter with the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. For the last three years of his 28-year tenure with the newspaper he was a general assignment reporter.

Conley resigned in 1990 to accept the position of News Information Director at Augustana College. He retired in 2010 but remained with the College as a part-time member of the Sports Information staff until 2013.

He was twice named South Dakota’s sportswriter of the year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association – 1987 and 1989. He was selected the South Dakota High School Coaches Association sportswriter of the year in 1981 and 1986.

Conley was inducted into the Sioux Falls Washington High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001 in the contributor category. In the same year he was the recipient of the South Dakota Girls and Women in Sports Leadership Award.

In 2004 he received the Lefty Olson Award from Augustana for lifetime service in athletics. In 2007 he was inducted into the South Dakota High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Shrine.

Conley served as a Howard Wood Dakota Relays volunteer for 50 years and chaired the Hall of Fame and Honorary Referee committees. He graduated from Sioux Falls Cathedral High School in 1957 and South Dakota State College (SDSU) in 1962. Bruce and his wife, Jean, are the parents of Teri Nagel, Sioux Falls, and Tricia Conley, Rochester, Minn. They have five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
