Clark Swisher




Born March 27, 1916 in Vermillion. 1934 Vermillion HS grad. 1938 USD grad. Was a coach and/or athletic director at Northern State from 1946-1986. When he started at NSU, he coached football, basketball, track, tennis and golf - with no assistants. The winningest football coach in NSU history, he was 146-42-4 with four perfect seasons and 15 South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference titles in 22 seasons (1946-55 and '57-68). A former president of the NAIA, Swisher has been inducted into the Helms Foundation Hall of Fame and the NAIA Hall of Fame. He was on the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1975-84. At USD, he lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball. After college, he coached one year at Wagner and two at Elk Point.
