Bob Wachs




Born Jan. 26, 1923 in Tracy, Minn. 1947 Northern Colorado grad. The winningest coach in the history of South Dakota men's basketball, Wachs compiled a 532-286 record in 30 years at Northern State (1955-85). The Wolves were SDIC champions 10 times and NIC champs twice under Wachs, who also led the Wolves to the NAIA national tourney eight times. Twelve times his teams won 20 or more games, including a school-record 28-4 mark in the 1983-84 season. Coached two years on the high school level, at Waunetea, Neb., and Wyandotte, Kan., before joining the Northern State staff as an assistant to Clark Swisher in all sports. At Tracy, Wachs played tennis, basketball, football and baseball. At UNC, he played football and tennis.
