Tickets on sale for 2007 SDSHOF Banquet

Tickets are on sale for the 2007 South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame banquet to be held Saturday, April 14, at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Ten people will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, bringing the membership to 177. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. To receive the discount price, tickets ordered in advance must be paid for in advance, and must be purchased no later than Wednesday, April 11. Tickets are available at Dakota Sports in Sioux Falls , by calling Glen Peterson (605?336-6715) or by writing to the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame, Box 88602 , Sioux Falls , SD 57109-8602 . The banquet starts with a social starting at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the induction ceremony starting at 7:30 p.m. Outdoor broadcaster Tony Dean and sprint car racer Doug Wolfgang are among 10 individuals chosen for induction in the 2007 Hall of Fame class. Wolfgang is the first auto racer ever chosen, while Dean is the first inductee chosen solely for his outdoor accomplishments. Also being inducted are: Fred Tibbetts, the winningest girls basketball coach in state history; basketball player Jim Gremmels, basketball/track athlete Kay Besanson, cross country and track coach Dave Little, track/cross country coach/official Dean Mann, track athlete Kay (Stormo) Freund, broadcaster Jim Thompson and booster Ralph Macy. Dean lives in Pierre, Wolfgang, Mann and Tibbetts in Sioux Falls , Thompson and Little in Spearfish, Gremmels in Glenwood , Minn. , Besanson in Wilmington , N.C. , and Freund in Georgetown , Texas . Macy is being honored posthumously. The Hall of Fame was established by the South Dakota Sportswriters Association in 1968 and is now an independent non-profit organization.
