Hall of Fame coach Bill Welsh subject of book

By Ron Hoffman | July 28, 2011

The story of tiny Claremont High School’s six-man football national record win streak is the subject of a book, “Six: A Football Coach’s Journey to a National Record.”

The book is now available. It was published by the South Dakota State Historical Society Press and written by Marc Rasmussen, whose dad, Marv (a member of the S.D. Sports Hall of Fame), played for Claremont and its legendary coach, Bill Welsh (a member of the S.D. Sports Hall of Fame).

Welsh came to Claremont in 1947, started a six-man team at the school, and six years later the Honkers had the national record of 61 victories.

Excerpts of the book are on the South Dakota State Historical Society Press webpage: www.sdshspress.com)
